Learning Support Assistant

Would you like to work as part of our outstanding learning support team? 

We have a fixed term vacancy (until July 2022) available for a Learning Support Assistant working in class and on a 1:1 basis.

The hours are every school day 8.30am – 3.15pm – term time only

Salary £19,321 - £24,491 - Full Time Equivalent - Grade 6, SCP 15 - 25 

You will need experience of working with young children in education and be able to build good relationships with them. 

GCSE (grade C or above or the equivalent) in English and Maths is essential and some competence in using a computer would be an advantage. 

You will be given training and, as part of a team, be well supported in your work.  Working in a primary school environment requires flexibility, adaptability and a dedicated desire to work with children.

Receptionist / Welfare Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION

RECEPTIONIST / WELFARE ASSISTANT

 

Start date: As soon as possible, subject to DBS clearance

Hours: 27.5 hours per week to be worked 9am – 3pm Monday to Friday, term time only

Pay point: Grade 5  - SCP 11-21

Salary:  £18,562 – £21,811 FTE (£11,753 - £13,810 pro-rated)

Responsible to: School Business Manager

Function:            To provide a support service complementary to the teaching activities of the school and welfare of the children in the school.

Duties:

Receptionist

Working as part of a team of 2 on the front desk your main responsibilities will be:

  • be the first point of contact for all visitors to the school and provide a welcoming environment following safeguarding policy
  • record all calls reporting pupil absence and telephone parents of any child absent without reason
  • produce letters and chase any absences where a reason has not been produced
  • monitor and record children on Inventory who come into school late or leave for an appointment
  • answer and log all incoming calls and pass on messages, where appropriate
  • photocopy any items required by the office team. Liaise with the contractor to keep the photocopiers in full working order
  • record all outgoing post.
  • take messages to the classrooms
  • take and collect pupils from classrooms where children arrive or are collected during the school day.
  • manage lost property.

 

Welfare Assistant

You will be the first point of contact for any first aid / medical requirements. This will include but not be limited to:

  • dealing with all aspects of injuries and illness, providing first aid treatment as required and contacting parents, if necessary.
  • receiving medicines from parents in line with the schools medicines policy, completing the required paperwork and ensuring it is appropriately stored
  • administration of medicines and completion of the paperwork
  • carrying out / assisting with the requirements of health care plans (this may include intimate care)
  • meeting the physical needs of pupils, where required.
  • communication to 3rd parties
  • escalation for additional medical services, where required
  • carrying out follow up checks in the classrooms, where required.
  • carrying out accident investigations including liaison with the Health and Safety Officer and Headteacher (training will be provided)

 

Maintain first aid boxes

Ensure storage of Adrenaline Pens & Ventolin inhalers for emergency use.

Provide Independent Health Care Plans for parents with children who have medical needs. Maintain register and ensure all staff are aware.

Liaise annually with Solent NHS Trust regarding whole school flu vaccination programme and provide pupil information for the school nurse.

Maintain & update Quick Notes

 

Occasional tasks

Be prepared to cover the other receptionist’s duties if they are absent including:

  • Using SIMS Attendance, process the weekly school registers, produce an absence sheet and then record all absences as appropriate.
  • Using school dinner registers count and order the appropriate amount of school meals before 10am each day.
  • Process holiday request forms and pass on to the Head teacher for authorisation.

 

Person Specification

Essential requirements:

Ability to communicate effectively to a range of audiences, through excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ability to work well as a member of a team

Ability to be flexible and cope with interruptions in workload

Willingness to undertake First Aid, Safeguarding and GDPR training

Confidentiality

 

Preferable requirements

Experience of working in a school office

First aid experience and / or existing first aid qualification

Experience in working with/caring for children of primary school age.

English and Maths to GCSE Grade C or equivalent
